VSU Hosts Global Experts for Raptor and Habitat Protection
VSU hosted a special lecture that united global conservation experts in avian medicine, raptor conservation, and advanced conservation technologies, Dr. Munir Virani and Mr. Nico Herth, alongside students and faculty from UP Mindanao on September 25, 2025.
After the lecture, the delegation explored the Biodiversity Research Center (BRC) at VSU. The Center is currently nurturing unique and endemic plants that are vital to its ongoing habitat restoration efforts, particularly to create a refuge for the Philippine Eagle and other native wildlife.
During the exchange, Dr. Virani and Mr. Herth shared a powerful reminder: “You cannot heal a bird without healing its forest”. They also expressed a strong commitment to supporting VSU’s mission that links wildlife conservation with forest restoration, particularly through the rehabilitation of native flora that sustains raptor habitats
“Conservation isn’t just about saving animals; it’s about restoring their homes and keeping ecosystems alive for future generations,” a representative from the Center shared.
This collaboration underscores VSU’s strive for advanced biodiversity research through international conservation expert-led restoration initiatives and partnerships.
