NCRC-V Celebrates 50th Anniversary with the Launch of Coconut Processing SSF
The National Coconut Research Center- Visayas (NCRC-V) marked a significant milestone with the launching of the Coconut Processing Shared Service Facility (SSF) alongside the celebration of its 50th Anniversary on December 17, 2025, at the NCRC-V, Visayas State University, Baybay City, Leyte.
The event highlighted five decades of the center’s contributions to coconut research, technology development, and extension services, while ushering in a new chapter of strengthened industry support through shared service facilities. The Coconut Processing SSF is envisioned to enhance value-adding activities, improve processing capabilities, and provide accessible equipment and technical support to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), farmer groups, and other coconut industry stakeholders.
The program was attended by officials from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Visayas State University, members of the Shared Service Facility Regional Technical Working Group, local government officials, industry partners, faculty members, staff, and beneficiaries. Messages of support and encouragement emphasized the importance of collaboration among government agencies, the academe, and local communities to strengthen the coconut value chain and promote inclusive and sustainable development.
A key highlight of the event was the signing of the Usufruct Agreement between DTI and Visayas State University, formalizing the partnership for the operation and management of the Shared Service Facility.
The celebration also served as a moment of reflection on NCRC-V’s 50-year legacy of service, research excellence, and extension work. Through the years, the Center has played a vital role in developing coconut-based technologies, supporting farmers and MSMEs, and advancing knowledge to respond to the evolving needs of the industry.
