KMU Holds Unit Editors’ Training on the Navigation of R&D Nexus
The Knowledge Management Unit (KMU) of the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation (OVPREI) successfully conducted a training workshop titled “Effective Use of the R&D Nexus: A Comprehensive Unit Editors’ Training” on December 9, 2025. The event brought together unit editors and staff from across the university to strengthen digital content management and enhance knowledge-sharing practices.
KMU Head Ms. Ganessa Rose G. Cuevas opened the workshop by emphasizing the growing importance of Knowledge Management (KM) as the university’s central repository of intellectual and research assets. She highlighted that high-quality documentation and proper content organization are essential in preserving and effectively distributing VSU’s knowledge resources to wider audiences.

Dr. Santiago T. Peña Jr., Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation and R&D Nexus Administrator, delivered the first session by revisiting the purpose behind the creation of the R&D Nexus—OVPREI’s urgent need to centralize research, extension, and innovation outputs. He reported that the platform has reached nearly 2,500 active global users, marking a significant milestone for VSU’s digital visibility.
Dr. Peña also walked participants through the website’s previous and newly launched features and shared KMU’s upcoming initiatives for 2026, including the VSU Online Experts Directory and the VSU Events Directory.

KMU staff member Jesiah Mar M. Santos led a technical session on proper photo formatting and the step-by-step process of uploading visual assets to the R&D Nexus gallery. Santos emphasized correct file management practices, including file formats, naming conventions, album creation, and caption writing—key steps in maintaining consistent and organized content across KMU platforms.

In the final session, KMU Head Ms. Cuevas discussed foundational Knowledge Management concepts and guided participants on developing evergreen content for VSU’s digital platforms. She clarified the distinctions between data, information, and knowledge, and demonstrated how unit editors can transform raw information into long-lasting web content that remains valuable beyond short-lived news updates.
The afternoon portion of the training featured a practical workshop where participants applied their newly learned skills by uploading photos, formatting materials, organizing media assets, and drafting permanent articles based on selected research and extension outputs. The workshop concluded with participant presentations and a post-test that assessed their learning progress and readiness to implement improved documentation practices.
To close the event, the KMU awarded certificates to all participants and expressed its continued commitment to helping research and extension units produce high-quality digital content that will strengthen VSU’s expanding knowledge platforms.
