VSU Hosts Orientation-Seminar on PACER Grant and Intensification of High-Impact Publication
In a proactive effort to strengthen the research and publication culture across the university, the Visayas State University (VSU) conducted an Orientation-Seminar and Levelling-off on the PACER Grant and Intensification of High-Impact Publication program at the VSU Main Campus on August 1, 2025.
The program officially opened with a prayer, followed by welcome remarks from Dr. Rotacio S. Gravoso, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who underscored the university’s ongoing commitment to advancing research productivity through structured funding and publication support.
The first session focused on the PACER Grant (Publication/Policy/Patent Assistance and Collaboration for Emerging Researchers). This activity aims to orient faculty-researchers on the mechanics of the implementation of the PACER grant, a unique mentorship strategy to boost the university’s publication, policy, and patent outputs. Dr. Santiago T. Peña Jr., Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation, walked participants through the scope and guidelines of the grant. An open forum followed, allowing faculty members to clarify the procedures and share insights.
After a brief health break, the second session commenced with the presentation by Dr. Ivy C. Emnace, Director of the Research Office, who also introduced another strategy being implemented by VSU for the intensification of VSU’s high-impact publication outputs. Her talk emphasized the importance of aiming for Scopus-indexed journals and fostering a research environment that encourages innovation and collaboration. Another open forum allowed attendees to raise questions and share experiences related to academic publishing.
Faculty from the entire VSU system participated in the seminar, reinforcing the university’s unified approach to research and publication excellence.
The event was organized by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation. It was concluded with a brief closing message, highlighting the collective responsibility of the academic community in making sure that results from research endeavours are widely published.
