Training Workshop on Kab-Kab Food Processing in Villaba, Leyte

On March 25–26, 2025, the LGU Villaba’s Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) office and Visayas State University’s Research, Extension, and Innovation (REI) unit of Baybay (VSU Baybay) and Villaba (VSU Villaba) conducted a two-day Food Processing Training on the production of kab-kab. It aimed to safeguard traditional food processes and improve the livelihoods of Womens Association members in Villaba, Leyte.

The training featured theoretical lectures and practical workshops with discussion on ingredient selection, hygiene, packaging, and market trends, facilitated by VSU experts. The participants were highly satisfied and asked additional training on related themes, including marinated fish, dairy processing, meat processing, and food packaging.

The activity was capped with a closing ceremony, where the resource persons were given certificates of appreciation and the participants received certificates of participation. VSU Villaba Chancellor Dr. Reynaldo V. Mollejon gave the closing remarks, lauding the interest of the participants and reiterating VSU Villabadedication to the promotion of livelihood activities.

Overall, the training was able to bridge tradition and innovation, providing participants with both technical skills and entrepreneurial tactics. REI is set to monitor progress and build similar activities into other heritage food itemsfacilitating long-term community impact.
