VSU REI Expands Writeshop on Publishing in Scopus Journals to VITA Campuses

In its continuing effort to boost VSU’s Scopus publications, the VSU Research Office has expanded its Training Writeshop on Crafting Bibliometric Analysis for Scopus Publications in collaboration with the REI Offices of VSU Alangalang and VSU Isabel. Led by Prof. Eliseo Lucero-Prisno III, founder of Global Health Focus and a distinguished scholar in global health and scientific publishing, the training equipped faculty researchers with the skills to craft bibliometric analysis and position their research for Scopus-indexed journals.

The first leg of the writeshop was held at VSU Alangalang on September 3, 2025, and was followed by the second leg at VSU Isabel. Dr. Judith B. Jomadio, VSU Alangalang Chancellor, described the writeshop as a valuable opportunity, noting that while their campus produces research outputs and engagements, publishing them remains a challenge.

Meanwhile, Dr. Catherine L. Chan, VSU Isabel Chancellor, emphasized the need to cultivate a mindset among their faculty researchers for excellence in research through Scopus publication. “Our goal today is not only to gain technical skills in bibliometric analysis, but also to nurture a mindset of excellence in research by learning how to position our work for Scopus. This opens doors to wider opportunities for collaboration, recognition, and impact,” she said.

Dr. Ivy C. Emnace, Director for Research, also presented VSU’s policy on Student Researcher and Author Ownership. It affirms students’ rights over their theses when published and sets clear parameters for recognizing contributions and co-authorship with faculty advisers to ensure fairness and ethical standards.

The initiative builds on the first Writeshop on Crafting Thought Papers: Journal-Targeted Approach, launched on August 26, 2025, at VSUMain Campus, Baybay City. The three-day training aimed to strengthen the capacity of VSU faculty researchers in crafting thought papers for Scopus-indexed journals.

Following its success, the program has since expanded to the VITA campuses, where participants are expected to develop and submit their thought papers to Scopus-indexed journals. The initiative will continue with more writeshops set in the coming months.
