KAMMPIL agri-cooperative undergoes 2nd assessment for desiccated coconut processing
The second round of the facility and actual processing assessment of KAMMPIL Agri-Cooperative was conducted in Jaro, Leyte to further assist the cooperative in standardizing its desiccated coconut processing system and facility.
The assessment aimed to identify areas for improvement in the cooperative’s processing flow, facilities, and business operations as it works toward meeting the requirements of food processing accreditation and certification organizations. Securing the necessary certifications is expected to help KAMMPIL Agri-Cooperative access wider markets, improve product credibility and quality, and increase its potential income, contributing to better livelihood opportunities for its members.
The activity was initiated by the research team of the VSU Department of Business and Management (DBM) through its project, “Enhancing Competitiveness of Coconut-Based Enterprises in Eastern Visayas: Business Model Innovation through Dynamic Capability and Co-Creation Approach.”
The technical assessment of the processing flow and facilities was headed by Engr. Nilo Leorna of the VSU Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering. He was joined by Engr. Mencius Lesidan of the Engineering and Non-food Processing Section and Ms. Maria Farah V. Abayabay of the Food Processing Section, both from the National Coconut Research Center–Visayas (NCRC-V).
Meanwhile, the DBM research team simultaneously conducted the business plan development component of the assessment, headed by Dr. Mark Ratilla, project leader.
The second-round assessment provided an opportunity to further evaluate the cooperative’s existing operations and determine the improvements needed to meet food processing standards. Through the collaborative efforts of the VSU departments and NCRC-V, the activity seeks to strengthen KAMMPIL Agri-Cooperative’s processing capabilities and business operations, paving the way for greater market opportunities and improved income for its members.
